PROJECT: Oversized Slouchy Clutch

This is the third project of my April craft store purchases challenge (for challenge details view this post). I originally saw this idea on the very stylish blog, Style Scrapbook. So here are the two clutches I made and following is the tutorial of my version of this super easy, super stylish clutch.
Materials you will need:
- Fabric of your choosing (I believe I purchased 1/3 of a yard or so. Also the original tutorial used leather but I used a synthetic suede type material which worked nicely.)
- A metal zipper at least as long as your clutch will be wide
- Thread and sewing machine

First cut the fabric to size. I used a large magazine as template and placed it on the fold of the fabric. My piece of cut fabric was around 12.5" x 19"and you fold it in half so your clutch size is approx. 12.5" wide and 9.5" tall.

Now attach the zipper. Do this one side at a time. With the right side of the fabric facing the right side of the zipper pin and sew together.

Now attach the other side of the zipper to the other side of the clutch (again right sides together) and sew.

Here is the top of the clutch now with zipper attached. You should basically have a tube now with a zipper on top.

Now with the clutch inside out pin the two sides together. Leave the excess zipper hanging of the edges (we will trim it later) but make sure to unzip the zipper halfway so you can turn it right side out!

Sew up the sides (I double stitched this, one run straight stitch and one zigzag) and then trim off excess zipper ends. Turn inside out and you're done! I did not line these and since the material I used is thinner than say leather, you might want to line yours depending on how thin your fabric is and how stiff you want the clutch. I like the slouchy look so I kept it this way.

I made two of these, one in a rust color with a navy zipper and one teal one with a black zipper. I am going to keep the teal one but sell the rust one in my etsy store so if you would like it please buy it!

Thanks for stopping by and make sure to let me know what you think in comments below!

'till next time,
